"Historically, the discourse of absence is carried on by the woman: Woman is sedentary, Man hunts, journeys; Woman is faithful (she waits), man is fickle (he sails away, he cruises)." Taking a cue from these words of Roland Barthes', Hannon collagistically reconfigures Wrench's book, which narratively and poetically covers similar themes, cutting and stitching to create a patchworked examination of relationship breakdown from a woman's point of view. |
